You're right, the director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven adds a lot to that film. It's a shame it wasn't released like that in the first place.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00843523207030772573noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5277382991102685409.post-35029899663423431572017-02-06T14:10:53.637-08:002017-02-06T14:10:53.637-08:00Excalibur is a work of genius. Seeing that, and Conan the Barbarian, late at night on Channel 4 at an impressionable age is probably the foundation for many of my later interests. I have to say, though, I rate director's cut of Kindgom of Heaven pretty darn highly in the Scott canon. Wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of the early four though.Ead101https://www.blogger.com/profile/12133572879285956429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5277382991102685409.post-76663475385112876092016-12-04T06:07:50.979-08:002016-12-04T06:07:50.979-08:00It'd be interesting to see if there's any ...It'd be interesting to see if there's any take up on this sort of thing.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00843523207030772573noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5277382991102685409.post-16543211141682263012016-11-29T00:01:14.445-08:002016-11-29T00:01:14.445-08:00After reading this blog I saw this article:

Visually it's a film that still stands up to modern equivalents, and I think it's a great example of physical effects, model making and non-physical effects (i.e. whatever we call it before it was CGI).Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00843523207030772573noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5277382991102685409.post-82229270605109495062016-10-11T00:58:01.246-07:002016-10-11T00:58:01.246-07:00Interesting. It's undeniably beautiful. Especially when you consider when it was made. It's rare to find a movie that in some regards is actually 'timeless'. But a recent viewing highlighted it's one big problem, one that nearly ruined the film for me. It's script.

Ignoring Roy Battys final speech most of it is just bad. It might be that I've grown and expect more from films but it's so tropey. Women are either damsels or sexbots, some of the larger plot devices could have a bus driven through them (they're so huge).

But even though I squirmed the first aerial shot of LA, the haunting Japanese / Chinese ads projected on the building and blimps and the fantastically lit urban decay seems to ameliorate all of that. Style certainly goes a long way :)FamblyGuyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06942190508145344438noreply@blogger.com
